Test Transmission continues.......

LBN test transmission is continuing and they are still correcting the faults in certain areas and connecting their customers to the network.

We believe that the time that will be required for this correcting will be more than two weeks and LBN may be able to resume full scale operations during next month.

According to some reports that have been received by us it seems that some channels that are available in one area may not be available in another area. This is not confirmed though but all channels should be available at the time that full scale operations are expected to resume. We also hear that LBN has to renew some of the contracts that they have with their content providers since they have not being in operation for a period of seven months and once all of these are also sorted out then full scale operations can resume.

Unconfirmed information is also coming in that LBN is expected to raise subscription rates due to the losses incurred by the company due to the closure and the cost of the initial connection may also increase.

Please keep us updated on the latest on LBN as the days progress.

I can't believe it just in time for the BIGGEST premiership weekend of the season LBN signals are coming in loud and clear on Dharmarama Road Ratmalana

Great Job Technical
Keep up the good work

These channels can be seen on the basic analog package which I have

AXN
ESPN
STAR SPORTS
CHANNEL NEWS ASIA
EWTN
GOD
SUN TV

+ LOCAL CHANNELS

sadly no VH1 or NICK (I think VH1 was anyway on the premium package)

Signal Strength is EXCELLENT quality superb

The cables down Sunandarama Road are still borken(Been the same for the last week). Techincal guys please look in to it. They say that you should tune your TV. Earlier all I did was set the TV to the Video channel an it worked. There's no new configuration is there??

Anonymous said...

Yeh,Package prices are defeneitly going to increase by substancial amount.ESPN & STAR are the only providers who have waived off for the closed period and with new contracts to be signed up for the other channels,The cost factor is on the rise.

Further, some channels may be dropped due to various reasons and we will be not allowed to watch other feeds of star (like sudden transmission of rugger matches) at it would be illegal with the new regulations.

So its to be seen very soon whether to laugh or cry.

If LBN increase the Prices subtantially, then it will be the end of LBN

Anonymous said...

It seems that LBN Managemnt has warned the tech guys for blogging here...

Anonymous said...

Yeah Well... who ever has some 'pull' with regards to LBN.. I kindly request you look at Templers Road.....

Like I said.. it is a big weekend..

Anonymous said...

Yeah,The prenier package will go upto about 1500/- and the basic to around 1000/-,and its defenetly on the cards.

And the intial charges are going up too

Anonymous said...

If you confident about the pricing strategy at LBN. Can get the details about the commercial transmission…….

Anonymous said...

They have to get fresh agreements and they are defeneitly cost more with the past expereince the channel providers had.The overheads accumilated and the devalation of the rupee will further add to the cost factor.

The commercial operation will start when the agreements with the channel providers are finalized. So it depends on how you negotiate.

Anonymous said...

CBN increase the the prices only by 50/-...there is no way that LBN make it by 500/-

If they do so..wonder who will remain with them...

It is understood that the costs have gone up...so little increase won't matter..

However it is too early ... still the test transmission on...no new channels have been added..long way to go

PLAY A STRAIGHT BAT LBN!

It is fair to expect LBN to adjust its levies reasonably as costs have gone up all around over the past seven months, but certainly not by 500 rupees which is ridiculous, to say the least.
Now that the station is back on the air, the Management should not try to demand its pound of flesh from subscribers who went thru hell for long months. If it wants to cover accumulated losses, LBN's talented MD can file a lawsuit against the govt. seeking damages for loss of business and for tarnishing its image. Customers should sue LBN if there is an unfair 500 rupee package price hike. This should not be allowed. The station was closed because there was no proper licensing. This was not the fault of customers who fell victim to an unlicensed station. It is we who should be compensated for the misery we went thru.
LBN, don't try dirty tricks. We have a choice of other stations. Let us collectively boycott LBN if anything unfair or unethical is done at our expense. We should not be allowed to pay for LBN's sins. These new proposed rates are being pumped into this blog by the LBN management itself in a 'issalla muttiya dala balamu' strategy.
Go ahead LBN increase rates by 500 rupees. We also have recourse to the law.
Go ahead, we will leave no stone unturned to seek legal redress citing CBN as an example. Despite being a sattelite operator, it has increased its rates only by 50 rupees.

AGREE 100% WITH THE LAST COMMENT. WE MUST NOT DANCE TO THE TUNE OF LBN. LET US START A PROTEST CAMPAIGN IF THIS IS DONE. COME ON FRIENDS, JOIN HANDS TO ENSURE JUSTICE.

Anonymous said...

So what would be the reasonable pricing,Its a fact that LBN cannot survive or upgrade with this income,Further with the new legislations to come for sattelite and cable industry,Even the FTA channels should be telecast under the licence of the orginal broadcaster and even this would be added to the cost(In the past FTA was shown by LBN without such licence from the original providers),Further there are lot of bank borrowings and cost of electricity and cables have gone up by large sums and it is said that CBNsat have got the exclusive rights for some providers in the country(Like BBC),CBNsat will survive this intial storm and consolidate as it is now run by a cash rich company with enough funds.

But its differant with LBN and their only solution would be to increase the price as stated.

Anonymous said...

OTHER THAN ESPN/STAR OTHER PROVIDERS HAVE NOT WAIVED OFF THE CHARGES FOR THE SEVEN MONTHS IT WAS CLOSED,SO ITS A FACT THAT THESE AMOUNTS WOULD HAVE TO BE SETTLED FOR SIGNING OF NEW AGREEMENTS.

500/- FOR PREMIER PACKAGE WOULD BE SOMEWHAT OK

It’s very interesting to note the how the competitors act on baseless allegations. Some one think & he work outs a pricing strategy for LBN. Then others follow & take decisions. Very interesting …….a Company in any business with lots of difficulties. With out a income, their vision should be to resume the operation & regain the customers. Once again the reporters were back in action. Can you Wright against the Petroleum minister regarding the FUEL price in SRILANKA.?. in the world market 48 us, in our country…………

Anonymous said...

Man you dudes cant afford another Rs 500? if you cant afford it dont get it.. stick to the local channels and enjoy the political talks and shitty advertisments.

Anonymous said...

just a thought that maybe the cost divided amongst customers were more in case of LBN due to it been 10,000 in comparison to CBN 25000 but then again CBN is a satellite operation with booked transponders costing a hell of a lot more than LBN wires.

i call to LBN. they told did not increase rental.i think some peoples are mislead the blog

I am quite sure that if LBN can reduce their price, they will do it for sure in order to compete with CBNSat. So I think the rental of LBN would be their lowest possible price with minimum margins. They will be very cautious about the price in the long run also as they have to go aginst Dialog to win customers.
But because of their better picture quality and higher number of channels, they will be a better choice for their footprint area customers. Thei disadvantage would be the interruptions to service due to cable problems which we have been experiencing in the past.
I hope their technical guys will do their best to keep interruptions at a minimum.
CBN also has interruptions during rain whether.

Wateva guys... All I know is that Im in Mount .. down templers road and I cant see "jack" ... need help ASAP..

Anonymous said...

the person who wrote at 346 yesterday, if LBN has paid for all channels for the last seven months why are they not trasmitting all channels now?

Anonymous said...

Friends

Don't you think it is too early to comment on prices? Beside there have been no official comments from LBN. Not even tech guys comments on this blog now.

According to LBN internal information, their main objective is to get the previous channels back on line.

Anonymous said...

LBN was the only company gave the programme schedule free of charge. Hope they continue the same service.

Anonymous said...

Guys to pay for the last 7 months they have to raise funds to pay for the last 7 months and untill they do that and pay,you are not going to have any of the channels.

Trust me you are in for a rude shock in the near future about rentals.

Anonymous said...

Any one in the business the ultimate objective would to make profit. But this particular issue is totally different. Once the company is not operation due to unavoidable reasons, the business partners might give their corporations to the restart. Both companies, CBN / LBN, had Suntel / Dialog & Lankabell / Mobitel connections. But last 7 months these connections were functioning. It means uncertainty times also companies help each others. We do not panic about the future lets hope for the best……

Anonymous said...

Officially LBN has not indicated anything about a price revision. If there is some truth in that, then last thing LBN should be doing is to raise their prices. They should instead try to consolidate their existing customer base because after 7 months things have certainly changed and customers have other options. Therefore, It would be a very foolish move to increase prices.

Anonymous said...

To day is the magistrate court hearing for all 3 companies.

Anonymous said...

There is defenitely a revised package pricing. We will announce it once the transmission is back on line and restart giving connections.

Don't worry we are not going to charge you for the 6 months that we were closed.

We have to pay a huge sum outstanding on our account with channel partners. So please bear with us for about a month till we sort that out.

It is taking some time than we earlier thought. So it will take another month to negotiate. Till we settle all outstanding we will not be able to get all the channels.

Thank you for your patience.

Technical Team

Anonymous said...

LBN when will ur'll give the other channels like MTV, Channel V, Cartoon Network, Star World, Star Plus, etc... Pls give those also soon.

Anonymous said...

Dear sir,

We are going to reduce the rental by around 7% for the subscribers of LBN prior to the closure,While all new connections will be issued at a premium price of 30% above this rate.

So the exsisting customers will be in for a bonaza and have nothing to worry.

Those who insult other cable tv providers reflect the badness of the service they receive.

By throwing mud at CBN and Comet, LBN fellows are trying to show the bad side of LBN.

Let this not happen. Let us respect fair play and do thing fairly!

Dear Mr. M.R.M .FURKHAN.

Please look into your problems at CBN. Do not panic about other networks. Any one wants to contact Him at CBN email furkhan_mah@cbn.com

Some Problems....

It seems that there are some minor problems present in the CBNsat broadcast that is taking place over the last few days.

One is that mostly all channels on Transponder 2 are not able to update the time and therefore the EPG on VH1 and Nick does not update as well. This has been highlighted several times via this blog but nothing seems to be happening so far.
Another one being that on Saturday night the football matches on Star Sports seem to have had Hindi commentary instead of the English one. Usually the feed on Star Sports carries dual language for major events. So somehow or the other CBNsat seems to have selected the wrong language feed resulting in Sri Lankan's having to put with up a feed that they do not understand.
We hope that CBNsat would check into the above problems and sort them out as soon as possible so that the subscriber will have a pleasurable viewing experience.

I noticed the picture quality on all movie channels are reduced drastically for the last two weeks.

The picture has a foggy effect and the picture freezes on most of the fast moving scenes.

Hope CBN tech guys will do something about it.
