Form a LBN Subscribers Group

At the moment according to information that is being received by us LBN is not providing information and keeping their customers informed of the present situation.

We think it is time for the subscribers to form a group and approach the relevant authorities and inform them of your grievances.

Requests by us to LBN customers to form a group like the one formed by CBNsat customers have so far gone unheeded so we hope that someone takes up this challenge and makes sure that the customers are adequately protected.

I am not sure that subcriber group like CBN is likely to happen. no body has even bothered to comment.

everybody is waiting for things to happen. This will be a long wait for them.

There is no point forming a subscriber group as LBN is not interested in alternatives. They have already got caught to the trap set by the authorities. Simple answer given by TRC is that "the documents are with President". So nobody can question him including judges. This is Sri Lanka.

It seems that even LBN customer service guys too like it...since they too can getaway with it. Try to call them...if you get an answer other than the following, please post it
"Sir Documents are with president. We can't do anything until he signs it. I am sure he will sign it before the next hearing date"

LBN is allowed to carry out a test transmission on Thursdays. Even that is limited to certain area. So nobody knows what is wrong with the total coverage. I believe that LBN is not in a financial position to do so. We getting information that some technical guys have already left the company. So you can imagine the current status!!!

Anonymous said...

I doubt if many customers of LBN will be left once dialog starts giving out CBN connections somewhere in january. It's a shame co's i expected a lot from LBN. but i have already set my sights on CBN.

Anonymous said...

Most of them may not afford to do so, unless Dialog offer a concession to LBN customers

Anonymous said...

with the new digital decoder and the startup cost LBn too works out to be almost the same price. But my point is unlike with the CBN case where their progress was visible LBNs silence only becomes counter productive co's the customer cannot wait without hope.

On a more positive note when both were operative my personal openion was LBNs picture and sound quality was better than CBNsats(after converting to digital that is). They can do wonders with their cable infastructure and with the bandwidth. broadband internet is one option. But for all this they have to come back first.

Anonymous said...

LBN employees also now update the blog like CBN staff, I don’t think this particular exercise dint had a great impact on the reopening the CBN. Any for the our own satisfaction it’ good.

Anonymous said...

correct me if I am wrong - but did CBN win their case on something to do with human rights violation - since such a lot of preferences in court is given for human rights violations cannot the customers do something if LBN management is willing to back them up.
The management of LBN is too sleepy - maybe in a 100 years like Rip Van Winkle they might wake up - but then it wud be too late - they wud not hv a single customer left . I was looking forward to watching some good programmes for Christmas -all hopes are shattered.!!!! and is LBN bothered - if they were willing after consulting some good lawyers - maybe something might have been able to be done. They talked big about filing a motion like CBN - but from what I hear nothing has got off the grounds.

Might be a good idea to take LBN to Courts- maybe then we wud get a response!!!!

Anonymous said...

well most customers dont know that there is a blog like this - and LBN is not interested in informing their customers - or giving updates on the blog - typical lotus eaters!!!!!!!

I ams ure the customers wud unite if we cud get LBN on track again - but it looks like LBN is not interested.

Anonymous said...

come to think of it my earlier comment looks as if i'm trying to promote LBN. But fortunately i'm not employed at LBN nor do i know anyone there. I have been using LBN close to about a year. I chose it mainly because they had more channels than CBNsat.
As per your comment do you seriously think a LBN employee will go to the trouble to participate in a blog with their lethargic attiture to the whole issue.
But i wish they do so that we can get more information on what's going on at their end.

Anonymous said...

I think we should get the leading newspapers to inform readers of this blogspot and their url so they customers cud log in. LBN fears to release the names of their clients or inform them of this blogspot. Maybe they are scared that the customers wud unite to sue the company - hoodwinking the public without having the appropriate licences to transmit.

If LBN showed a little bit of interest maybe the customers wud rally round to help get the service going - but in the wake of such gross indifference dont u think we the suckers shud get some relief????? what is yr thinking on this matter?

Anonymous said...

if you are thinking of going to court for a relief count me out. I'd rather cut my loses and find other means than look to the srilankan justice system for recourse. It'll take you years to get out of that mess. We should think of some other means. Right now i'm at a loss as to what that can be.
By the way I have a dead LBN decoder at home for which i have only made the initial payment. May be i can sell it for parts and recover something

Anonymous said...

you can remove the cables down the lane and sell some of those GI pipes they have put up to your local hardware and recover your money

Anonymous said...

If you realy want to get LBN back on track,Stop talking bullshit and form your own SUBSCRIBER UNITE.

We are well aware that subscriber unite of CBNsat did hell of a lot get back the service on track,They didnt wait for anything, when they found out that this was going to be a long story they sprang upto action and the numerous articles on the newspapers, pushing the media secretary and TRC were done with the teamwork and i even spotted that the CBNsat CEO has thanked the subscriber unite for the part played by them.

Dont try to compare the transmission quality of CBNsat with LBN and it cant even come closer to that,But its time you form a unite and preasurize the authorities,No wonder youll are blasting the LBN staff,When the subscribers are no better.

Anonymous said...

subsriber unite did'nt get cbnsat back it was dialog that bought the company otherwise cbnsat would still be off air. It was cbnsat that negotiated the sale of their company not the supporters group

Anonymous said...

you were in the same boat before Dialog took over. It is true that CBN subscriber unit did lot of hard work but it had nothing to do with Dialog take over.

Anonymous said...

you are right. The CBN Subscribers unit was very active. I'll give you that. That also goes for the CBN blog. But overall the impact on the final dicision was not much. It was the Managements timely decision to transfer the operation to someone with a lot more financial and political clout that brought back CBN. Do you seriously think that the govt authorities give a hoot to what we have to say in their decision making. who ever posted the comment before the last one can you tell me what the subscribers agitation did to affect the courts or authorities decision. But again i need to stress the unit was very commited to the task.

This is the qulity that they are talking

Local Channels:
The picture quality of TNL on CBNSat is poor.
DERANA is much better picture quality.

Other Channels
Cinemax, HBO, HBO Signature, AXN, STAR Sports, ESPN and Nickelodeon has had pretty good quality picture for the last week or so.

The other channels seems to have had a drop in picture quality and sound too.

Anonymous said...

To my knowledge in technical terms a wired network like LBNs is a much better medium to transmit data than a satalite. If anyone knows any better please enlighten me. LBN was not given enough time to work on their digital infastructure for us to judge them. Anyway those are of no use right now unless they come back. As it is i'm very skeptical of a return for LBN. I hope i am wrong. But with dialog in the bussiness now i might switch aligence soon.

Anonymous said...

That's true.

So CBN subscriber member don't talk big here.

You should be thankful to your ex Boss & Dialog

Anonymous said...

Up until they were suspended I enjoyed watching LBN as compared to the muck that local TV has to offer (that's including MTV)and over these last few months the situation has further deteriorated. If you are a fan of Tamil, Hindi or cheap Sinhala teledramas the local channels will no doubt be able to satisfy you. However, I am not a fan of any of the above and really miss watching LBN for at least a few hours every day. LBN does come across as an extremely lethargic company with nothing done "pro actively" on their part. Although the start-up cost for CBN is higher that LBN, We don't seem to have any other option. As for as I am concerned the next court date will be the last straw. After that I shall use the LBN cable to hang our clothes out to dry.

Anonymous said...

guys dont start the blame game. notcing the comments made, what CBNsat subcribers did was to make awareness amongst people of the issue and kept articles in the media to keep the matter alive and give the CBN the morale support that its customers are willing to wait.

It also kept customers informed on the developments by at least couple of the group memebers been in court sessions and updating the blog immediately.

This helped by a long way for not just retention but information to flow amongst the community.

remeber rather than CBN management it was the group who kept the media enlightened about turn of events.

our wish is you do the same.

You are quoting a comment about test transmission of CBNsat. What a dipshit.

LBN qualit was nowhere near CBNsat quality when both services were officially on air.

Anonymous said...

I would like to add to that.

If you are a sports fan you will have a very bleak future ahead of you if you don't have cable. The costs are becoming too high for the local channels for rebrodcasting international sports especially cricket and on top of that the local add industry is also affected due to low ad budgets, and in turn no bigtime sponsors of the local telecast. This was evident by the SL-NZ tourny just completed. With the world cup arond the corner i don't want to take a risk.

Anonymous said...

you can take a horse to water but you cant make it drink. similary its useless sharing the CBN experience with LBN customers who are not willing to listen.

this happens when you try to help people who do not want to be helped.we have got our CBN and was just trying to help our fellow viewers who also had a bad experience which is continuing. if you dont want it, we have nothing to lose but remember you do..

TEAM FILEnetworks said...

If not for the CBNsat subscriber unite group and the CBNsat blog, another 2000-3000 (maybe more) subscribers may have switched to DishTV or SATnet. That would definitely have made an impact on Dialog's decision on the buyout. Notice Dialog clearly state 'Strong subscriber base' as one of the reasons they bought cbnsat.

Why don't you all form your own subscriber group without trying to find faults with the CBNsat Subscriber Unite?

Anonymous said...

I wouldnt want to watch cricket on the local chanels given the way they cut into adverts before and over is complete

Anonymous said...

cbnsat members are in the wrong blog this one is used to blame LBN for not giving info

Anonymous said...

I think we all r missing the point here. CBN sat and LBN cater to two different market segments. LBN was more multi lingual while CBN was concentrating on english language premium channels(Things are changing now though). Also the pricing was different. So there is not much of a competition between the two. In the same way The two blogs too seem to be different. This blog is more intent on just letting your frustration out (which was also the case with CBN blog initially) while some within it took a more active role. The problem is the different styles of management in the organisations. CBN had a more honest approach to their customers while LBNs approach is a total mistery and open to speculation. You can compare the two help desks for a start. By the looks of it a subscriber unit should be formed not to aggitate the authorities but the management of LBN.

By the way have you realised that this is the first time a LBN blog post has included so many comments. May be subsribers are starting to participate after all . who knows.

Hi

Just my two or three bits on this topic while CBNSAT subscribers got information from here and there and posted it on the CBNSAT blog i dont think it had even 1% effect in getting it back on air. It was just a buissness decision taken by Muhuanthans and Dialog Management
None of the bloggers knew of the takeover by Dialog until it happened. The info in the blog was all about a pending agreement with Rupavahini. Muhanthans are good busness people i dont think they made a loss when they sold the company for 520 million the only ones who sufferd were the customers who were deprived of the product they paid good money to enjoy.

Just give one observable thing CBNSAT bloggers did to get CBNSAT back on air?

Get real, accept the facts and make the right decision about any future investments on entertainment buisness men dont start a buiseness from the goodness of their hearts (There are people in CBNSAT blog who think Muhunthan is GOD) they want to make money so you the customer has to make the best choice

Dear Lightning_Struck_Tower

Be frank!! Only a handful of customers who were interested in dish TV (maximum 50-100) as the availability was less and the prices were higher. Those who could afford, would have anyway bought dish TV (including LBN customers)

Few customers, who were about get dish TV did not proceed with it when Dialog took over CBN. How many signatures that CBNsat subscriber unite could get for the petition? 200!!!300!!! So on what basis you say that “If not for the CBNsat subscriber unite group and the CBNsat blog, another 2000-3000 (maybe more) subscribers may have switched to DishTV or SATnet” Only “Kaluperuma was against it.

“Notice Dialog clearly state 'Strong subscriber base' as one of the reasons they bought cbnsat” – agreed with it 100% as it was the subscriber base but not the subscriber unite.

Some comments on your statement but not trying to find faults with the CBNsat Subscriber Unite?

Anonymous said...

mmmm...... it was nice to see so much feedback- lets try to get positive and see how we can make LBN management wake up from their slumber???

any suggestions????? why does not someone take a lead - we shall ofcourse back you in doing something constructive - if we can wake the management up - or maybe get our refund back from the company. (I like a idiot paid in full for the services instead of paying on a staggered basis - so I feel a double sucker.)
come on lets cut our losses now and unite.

Anonymous said...

to the blogger who stated that subcriber unite did not know about takeover of dialog!

maybe you have not done your homework, we wanted to get CBN back in air and some bloggers were aware but did not post it in blog because satnet and ,bac, hulugalla were keeping a watch on the blog.only a pathetic idiot would post such crucial information. Its like giving a gun to your enemy. why dont you have a look at one post by chami_tv who states that there is something positive going on but cannot divulge. Rupavahini was a diversionary tactic to keep bad guys off and motion filed when asset was taken over by dialog.

do you seriously think the vested interests would have allowed it had they known that they were hoodwinked by shrewd business plan by CEO of CBN and Dialog. This is Sri Lanka man, you cannot do things by the book.

its high time you guys get inspiration from how CBN was brought back and get your house in order. There is no unity amonst LBN customers to form a unit.look at the comments only pointing fingers and been negative about forming a group. look at the positives man.at least you know where you stand by sharing info.upto you guys cause we have our CBN,if you want LBN make yourself heard.

I suggest that we request the blog admin to send a mail (onbehlaf of the customers) to LBN MD and get a feed back on the following

•What are actions they have taken other than waiting till next hearing date?
•What is their alternative plan if it postpone again? (On 09th January!!)
•If there are any positive signs of resumption of services which they can’t publish ( which we can be hopeful of)

LBN management said in their letter of 8 Nov which is still posted on their website they have made a request to meet with the president, however nobody at LBN seems to know about this, it is more than a month since you requested to meet with the president but your staff dont know what has happened, whether he wants to meet you or not. These people are just waiting until the next case hoping the president will sign some document. I also read somewhere here they need media license does anyone know if they have got this?

Anonymous said...

yes they need to get media license once president signs the TRC docs. Knowbody knows the time duration

It’s very interesting to analyze the situation. Cbn was told they will be not in business under Mugundan’s management. End results they have to sell their business. Lbn story is totally different, from the day one if you really analyze the court case TRC & other relevant authorities wanted to settle the issues. If MOD didn’t clear cbn’s equipment for some unknown reasons can any one explain to us when you transfer the un cleared equipments to some other party is it automatically get cleared………..

Friends, quality of the programs which telecasts to Srilanka remains same from any networks. Lbn launch their digital networks after unfortunate cbn shat down. The lbn digital operations survived only for 4 days. In those conditions we could not compare the service quality.

The different is within limited coverage lbn had 10,000 customers, covering the entire nation cbn had 20,000 customers. Please judge the comparisons.

With in a weeks time lbn will back on air……………..

Ring tones remain dead in Jaffna mobile phones

Officials of Dialog GSM and Mobitel, the two mobile telephone companies providing cellular telephone service in Jaffna Peninsula, denied widespread rumors Monday that the wireless service, disconnected in August, are to be restored soon, sources from Jaffna said.

More than 40,000 people who had mobile telephone facilities lost the facilities when the Sri Lankan Military cut-off the wireless services following the break out of fresh violence on 11 August.

Dialog GSM, which owns 90 % of the connections and Mobitel, a collaborative company of Sri Lankan Telecom, have their main relay station to the Peninsula in the Palaly Military Base.

Sri Lanka Military consulted neither the wireless carriers nor the customers before suspending the services, according to sources

I agree with you, but as a customer point of view being active in our country you could give any definition. It’s a very sad situation, cbn subscribers unit thinks that they have done lots of think to get cbn back on air its very foolish statement they are making & poor guys who have used this blog ( cbn employees).

Another person saying that the above unit has participated in every discussion can you believe this? Before the acquire company like dialog will they get involved this kind of set of jokers for their decision making…..they would have done a research with the exciting customers. Where dialog is very strong on their R& D.

Anonymous said...

Hi

I was pointing out the fact that subscribers unite did not have anything to do with re-starting up of CBNSAT. One poster says that he knew all along that they were doing a deal with dialog and that chami_tv said something to that effect well this can not be proven anybody can now say that they knew about the deal even me! I don’t for a minute think that muhunthan would be stupid enough to divulge that sort of information to anybody but his very trusted confidantes. So if you knew about it then you are very close to muhunthan. I’ll let neutral ppl judge comments made by these guys in that light

Believe me I have the utmost respect for muhunthan's business sense though he's company didn't provide a service to customers who has paid for it, he has managed to convince idiots here (or is it CBNSAT employees and friends) that he is the good guy. The salient fact was that he didn’t have a television broadcasting license though he argued that he doesn’t need one for DTH that is a point of law to be decided by the courts. He shouldn't have taken this risk before starting up such a big venture. Even the Supreme Court held that CBNSAT needed a license under the Rupavahini act and directed the media ministry to issue it. I am not saying that what happened there after was ethical or just but muhanthan shouldn't have left that loophole open for huluballa to exploit

Kaluperuma if you have any objections to what I say point out the facts which are wrong. you are typical of what is wrong with this country today you cant bear to hear the other persons views and haven’t got the capacity to respond to them in a decent and civil way so you resort to what all third class morons (can be changed to read politicians in Sri Lanka) do in a similar situation using filth and meaningless rambling to try and quell an independent opinion In fact you sound like a true product of the “mahinda chinthanaya"

We need to do something in an attempt to receive decent and professional quality media transmissions which offer at least some unadulterated International content coverage. Perhaps formation of a subscribers group will help. I found LBN excellent in quality and content and the company customer focused too. Unfortunately I paid my subscription for one year as well as paying for a new digital decoder I never received! Most frustrating, with no decent quality TV programmes, in content or signal transmission since June 2006.

Bring back LBN if only for some culture and education!!

I am now reduced to the "ART" channel,(in the hope of seeing at least a snippet of unadulterated world news) but have to painfully endure the transmission of hours of cheap, get thin corsets and machines! advertising solutions, presumably aimed at a grossly obese nation somewhere in the west, I shall go mad!!!

Is this the professional quality TV Sri Lankan viewers accept and are reduced to?. Some folks must be easily pleased!!

Perhaps educational programmes aimed at simple excerise and dietary discretion would be a more sensible and realistic approach for any nation and costs nothing!!

Treat the underlying aetiology.

Likewise, with the deprevation of quality, educational TV!!

stop the blame game. LBN customers accusing CBN subcribers will not help to get LBN back on line.

Initial comment was to get LBN to form a group. I guess the first comment in this blog is true afterall.

whatever said and done CBN subcriber unite kept the customers informed and media informed. It doesnt matter whether they made a final impact on dialog takeover or not. They kept the blog informed on company status, court status and made the company give answers to the questions.

I guess thats a whole lot better cause it gave motivation for CBN team that subcribers are aware.

why dont LBN form similar objectives of working with LBN management and keeping the blog informed.

Look at comments made only this forum carrys 71 comments as of now but all previous posts have comments in single digits.thats says a lot about LBN customer interest.

at least CBN subcriber unite can say they have done something, what have you got to say???nothing no body even bothered to comment for posts upto now.

Yes why dont youll go and directly talk to Mr.Herath,No point in the admin talking to him behalf of youll,Take the good side of what the CBNsat subscribers did,If you want we will come in support of the LBN subscribers and try to get a contact of the cbnsat subscriber unit and just ask them what they did and how they did.

Just talking filth and bullshit is never going to get back LBN,start it immedietly raise your voice.

I also agree with you, our intension to get the value for our investment. When cbn was shat down on 06.06.06. for what ever reason the entire story begins. On same week lbn launch the digital network. Same week cbn lawyers mentioned about sat net & lbn. On the june 15th with the kebitgollawa incident lbn was shat down.

Cbn – intentions were very clear cannot operate the business under cbn management, after 6 months they have to sell their business.

Lbn – authorities clueless, from the 18th of june for the settlement. Lbn management also doesn’t want to sell their business to another party.

If lbn gets the clearances from the authorities it’s a victory for the entire business community. Because tomorrow it may happen to any one in Srilanka. Believe it or not …..This week is crucial

Who said Kaluperuma is working at CBNsat,I dont think so.

But i think he is right on certain points,The authorities knew that CBNsat has a subscriber base, mainly through the Unite and lethargic and ineffective attitude of the LBN subscribers may have prompted the authorities to think that LBN hasnt got any subscribers at all,and CBN got rallied around number of outstations subscribers from all around the country,But LBN with the customer base only around colombo city limits are unable to get together or get a single article on the print media,

This tells the whole story and God bless you.

can those who have no other interest in LBN resumption of services please get out of this forum and stay out please - the filth and rubbish talked just goes to show the standard and calibre of the cess pit dwellers - so pls all u lovely folk who are only interested in showing off your wonderful cesspit language -pls open another forum which wud stink to high glory n get on with it - pls leave us poor customers who are looking for a solution a chance to get some relief.

This blog was started to help the LBN customers - not to show off your low level of life and identity.

thanks

Dear Friends,

Please stop blaming each other and do something worth to get LBN back. We never posted everything we've done on the blog. A blog is an open space and if we put our future action here obviously it will fall into our enemies hands.
If you read the CBNSat blog there also some bloggers accused us saying that we are not doing anything. Some even accused the lawyers of CBNSat case.

That is the nature in Sri Lanka. You will criticise the others but only few will come forward to fight for your rights. Why don't you guys do something worthwhile to get your service back rather than losing your energy here by shouting filth.

There was a lot we did as subscriber unite and everybody needs to know knows. If you have any doubt visit www.cbnsat.com and see. We never wanted publicity in what we do. But when the results came in it could be seen by everyone.

So we urge you guys to be united and fight for your rights. We hope that you are brave enough to do so as you comment here anonymously.

GOOD LUCK TO LBN SUBSCRIBERS !

Anonymous said...

It is true and fully agrees with you. It has been accepted by LBN subscribers as well. Hats off to senior bloggers of CBN Sat. We might need your help as well.

However, few people try to say that they have done wonders with CBN subscriber unit which is not acceptable.

Sanjeev Thurusinghe said...

I agree with Isuru, but if you go through the blog curtain people once they made the comment entire focus takes a different path. It’s not to win the battle over each other, but express our frustration surrounding us.

Isuru, for your information, I personally got to know that ground works have been finalized to sort out current lbn issues. Hope that thinks get expedites fast & enjoy little bit of entertainment which these companies could deliver.

The greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising up every time we fall.

To do wonders or anything first you guys have to get together and form a union. The simple reason for LBN management to get away with it also because the subscribers are not united.

What we see on this blog is that a single person is trying to stop LBN subscribers being united. It is clearly evident that their is a big conspiracy to stop forming a LBN Subscriber Union.

Some LBN subscribers have fallen pray on to that trap.

Don't fall for these dirty tricks. Form a unoin and show your strength as subscribers.

Anonymous said...

Greate comment Lisuru, we know who that single person is. However, we don not entertain such people in this blog.

Ado Kalu,

Why are you silent? If you want more cbn history we are able to relies it to you,
Ok we are going to maintain the fact that as customers we want value for our money. We are not interested about other unrelated matters. Let’s maintained the decency from now………

Anonymous said...

It appears that one or certain LBN subscribers are a set of jokers,As somebody said why cant some of you guys directly talk to Shirantha Herath,Get him involved with you,Fire some press releases and get in to action.

Its no point fighting with Kalu and other than the slang lot of thinks he said are correct,You become fools as he well off either way,He has CBNsat back on track, and if he is realy working for CBNsat his job is more secure with Dialog.

Go for your cause and dont get off track.

SHALL WE DO A LETTER LIKE THE CBNSAT SUBSCRIBERS AND GET IN THE PRINT MEDIA,WHO IS GOING TO COORDINATE,

Anonymous said...

Guys now you believe us. How cbn employees effectively used this blog. These so called subscriber units & under the cbn customer care signatures try to promote Buddhism in srilanka, having a grand press conference & showed the entire licenses. Ect….. And finally terrorist have lost the battle & losing the war also.

If any one needs any information post your e mail address we are able to share the information’s….

For your information lbn will resumes operation under the current management.

Anonymous said...

I think the best way is to arrange a meeting for LBN Managements to see the President. Looks like until the president is convinced, nothing will happen. Anybody who has contacts in Temple trees please arrange a meeting with HE to LBN MD to present his case and seek some relief.

Anonymous said...

yes quite correct but i think lbn md is scared to see him otherwise by now he would have already met.

Anonymous said...

What is this Buddhisum scene, can the the anon elobarate on that please,Thats news to us?

Anonymous said...

its great to see that something positive is coming about from this blog. Yes as LBN customer we shud unite and can someone with clout please liaise with LBN Management and organise a customer support base - so that customers can call LBN and help organise the affairs of the company from within -coz this blog seems to be infected with a species of bugs who are trying to stop LBN from starting.

Please lets get organised - leave all the crap out!
maybe Suresh Perera from the Sunday Island who has written every week a small story on the situ at LBN and who I think is also a subscriber of LBN could help us in a big way - having the press is a good thing.

Anonymous said...

Great can any of our guys create a email and get info of all the genuine subscribers along with their account numbers and get this started off.

Once we have a sufficient number we could meet somewhere and get this kick started immedietly.

Sanjeev Thurusinghe said...

If any one can draft a great letter regarding lbn & the related issues, definitely I could help to publish the letter in the Leader, Times & island.
