Now, LBN replaces JAYA TV with MEGA TV. No more DW TV in their line up.

Sad news that LBN could not get JAYA TV signal after DD DTH stop telecasting JAYA TV & DW TV.

LBN should try C Band satellite INSAT 2E,3B,4A (83.0E) for the JAYA TV. On this satellite, you can get all the tamil channels except SUN network channels. You can get JAYA TV, JAYA PLUS, JAYA MAX, MEGA TV, MAKAL TV, etc....

LBN should add JAYA TV immediately because it is a very good tamil channel.

I hear that Comet Cable is in trouble, I think LBN will also have the same fate if they don't improve. Last week I inquired about the channels in Digital Basic from their hotline twice on the same day, in the morning I was told I will 50 channels, in the evening I was told I will have everything except Ten Sports, Star Cricket and HBO Channels. I am puzzled and dropped the idea of switching to Digital. Even their call centre executives doesn't know what they are offering, so how on earth can we be sure what we will get

@STAR,
Will there be a local agent for SUNNETWORKS in Sri Lanka? If so please let us know.

star said...

@ podiman,

There are few who already apply for it. I will give you details once they are ready to give the connection.

@ kalaingar,

You are right. Most of the staff they don't know the channel line on LBN. But, please go to their office & collect a brochure. It will give you the full list. But, I will say their DIGITAL picture quality is the BEST.

I reckon they launch the SUNNETWORKS in Tamilnadu. When you get some information please let us know. Hope there will be a local agent in Sri Lanka.

Jayalalithaa launches Jaya Plus & Jaya Max TV channels

AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa launched two additional channels hoping to strengthen her Jaya TV basket and put up some fight for share of Tamil viewership. Jaya Plus will be a 24-hour news channel with current affairs, talk shows, political interviews and debates on fiscal issues thrown in, while Jaya Max will provide non-stop music, according to K. P. Suneel, Vice-president (news), Jaya TV.

The former chief minister drove from her suburban Sirathavur farmhouse, where she has been holidaying for the last few days, to switch on the two new channels.

Addressing the staff at Jaya TV, which is she controls along with the family of friend Sasikala Natarajan, she exuded confidence that the new channels would become highly popular and wanted those in charge of programming to do their best to produce aesthetic and contemporary fare.

Thanks all of you for bothering to reply, my simple question to LBN is when they say they will stop support for analog, why do they want to promote analog, I have seen they have put up pallets all around coverage areas. Secondly, for digital they want Rs. 8,050/-, 4000-odd more, one could get Dialog, that too in 12 Months instalment scheme.

Amaris said...

Kalaingar:

Have you seen the new dialog monthly rental charges? Do you actually think Dialog is better than LBN.

When you say "4000-odd more, one could get Dialog, that too in 12 Months instalment scheme" you seem to imply that people only get LBN as they don't have the money to get Dialog!

Isn't LBN better in every single way except may be in marketing.

Connection charges are cheaper
Rentals are less
Picture quality is better
Channel selection is better

than DTV....

and anyway WHY would any reasonable logical person WANT to pay 4000/- more for DTV? What do they give that LBN don't?

crickstats said...

I accept that LBN has more channels, but it is the quality more than quantity that should matter. They are some channels making only numbers in LBN, For e.g. God & EWTN. Moreover, Yesterday Vijay TV was censored by LBN saying that viewers in Sri Lanka are not authorized to view the particular programme. I don't know why that should happen when we have paid to watch? (Can someone confirm that Vijay was censored by every service provider in SL?), I think you would be able to get more channels in Dish TV than any other TV

Amaris said...

Kalaingar:

What does DTV offer (at their inflated price) that LBN doesn't. I agree the number of channels are not as important as the quality of content. But LBN offers almost all of DTV's channels and more.....don't they?

star said...

@ Kalaingar,

Please note that some of the programs on Vijay Tv is only for Indian viewers. Vijay Tv don't have the right to telecast to other countries. Specially Sunday english movie with tamil audio. This is Vijay Tv problem & not LBN. If you have a DISH TV with Indian address card then you can watch that program on DISH TV.

Jaya TV launches two channels

AIADMK has started its test run for its two upcoming channels under the 'Jaya' brand.

The two channels include a 24-hour news channel Jaya Plus and a music channel Jaya Max.

According to officials, full-time transmission of the new channels will begin by January from the group's studios in Ekkaduthangal on the city's southern outskirts.

The Jaya TV group has been operating only one channel for the past nine years, which offers mixed fare including entertainment and news.

Jayalalitha has long been alleging that up-linking permission had been withheld as long as Dayanidhi Maran, younger brother of Kalanidhi Maran, was union minister of telecommunications and IT.

R-ADAG to storm DTH market in March next

The direct-to-home television market in India is all set to sizzle early next year, when the younger Ambani plans to launch Reliance-ADAG’s BIG DTH hoping to repeat the magic Reliance wrought on the mobile phone scene years ago. Industry sources say Reliance-ADAG executives are lobbying hard to get the government mandate conditional access system (CAS) in 55 cities, just in time for BIG DTH launch.

The advent of CAS will force consumers to make a choice between cable TV, internet TV and DTH, thus helping BIG DTH play the volume game efficiently. The strategy includes attractive subscription offers that would seek to lure viewers further away from cable TV, the sources said. Reliance executives close to the DTH venture confirmed the move to ET.

For one, Reliance is in advanced talks with Toshiba to sign an agreement for about 15 million LCD TVs, to be given along with the DTH connection. The proposal deal stands like this: BIG DTH will offer its DTH connection for Rs 10,000-12,000 and the consumer will get a Toshiba LCD TV free along with the DTH hardware. Also, subscription will be free for the first six months or so.

Bharti, the other player that is also entering the DTH space, is also learnt to be lobbying for the implementation of CAS. The Bharti DTH project, is learnt to be ready to take off, but the company has decided to hold its launch, for a more opportune entry into the market.

Both players, Reliance and Bharti will combine their telecom services with DTH and IPTV and look at pushing both categories, and in turn cleaning out the cable market.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had mandated CAS in certain areas of Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata last year, stating that this was being looked at as an experiment to actually test if CAS as a technology could look at bringing addressability in the broadcast industry.

However, due to the price freeze imposed on by Trai, broadcasters seem to find it an unviable business proposition. In fact, the broadcast fraternity have made several representations to the information & broadcast ministry stating that CAS has been a failure and has not taken off in areas where it has been mandated.

The call to mandate CAS across India is clearly a tough call and actually borders on a much larger issue of being more a political issue. For Mr Ambani to actually swing it is going to be a mammoth task, considering the various stakeholders such as cable operators and broadcasters, who will go all out to oppose the move.

RELIANCE DTH ON MEASAT-3

Its Finally Official - Anil Ambani's Reliance 'Blue Magic' DTH Platform will Launch On The Measat-3 Satellite.

According to the Indian DTH regime, DTH transponders are to be availed of, from the Indian Space Research Organisations (ISRO) that owns and maintains the all the Indian satellites including the INSAT system of communications satellites.

ISRO also manufactures all its satellites and even launches a few of them. Satellites are planed years in advance. ISRO has been caught unprepared by the sudden huge demand for Ku Band DTH transponders for Indian DTH platforms. While ISRO's recent birds have able to provide adequate Ku Band transponders for the new TataSky DTH platform, they have been unable to meet the requirement of Reliance's BlueMagic DTH platform.

The Airtel-Bharti DTH platform is also likely to launch next year, and it remains to be seen if ISRO's new bird will be launched in time for Bharti DTH or whether international transponders will have to be subleased for Bharti DTH too.

To meet the required demand of licensed DTH platforms like Reliance, ISRO leases the transponders from international satellite operators and sub-leases them to the DTH platform.

MEASAT

Measat is part of the Malaysia based ASTRO group which also has its own DTH platform serving Malaysia, Indonesia and neighbouring countries.

The Measat-3 Footprint Also Covers Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal & Parts Of Burma/Myanmar

MEASAT-3

The Measat=3 satellite is a Boeing 601HP satellite, located at 91.5 degrees East. It has 12 C band and 12 Ku Band transponders of 36 MHz each.

The C Band Transponder footprint is loaclised around Malaysia and Indonesia & does not cover the Indian Subcontinent.

The Measat-3 footprint of its 12 Ku Band transponders sharply focuses on India, but also provides strong signals over Bangladesh, Pakistan & even Afghanistan.

8 MEASAT TRANSPONDERS

Measat Satellite Systems and ANTRIX Corporation Limited ("Antrix") - the commercial arm of the Indian Space Research Organization ("ISRO"), signed an agreement for leasing Ku-Band transponders on the MEASAT-3 satellite at 91.5 deg East. The agreement was signed on 1st November 2007.

Under the agreement, Antrix will lease 8 Ku-band transponders on MEASAT-3, with an option to increase the number subsequently. The transponders will be used by Antrix to support the launch and development of a commercial new Direct-to-Home (DTH) TV platform in India. While the Antrix-MeaSat press release did not mention the new Indian DTH platform, it is generally accepted that it is the RCom owned Reliance Blue Magic DTH platform.

MPEG-4 COMPRESSION

Reliance's BlueMagic will use MPEG-4 compression, which will allow it to pack twice as many TV channels per transponder, compared to the older MPEG-2 technology deployed by DishTV and TataSky.

Maran's Sun Direct DTH has also deployed MPEG-4 compression.

MPEG-4 can be deployed on any satellite transponder, but requires MPEG-4 Satellite receivers which are currently not only in short supply globally, but also cost twice as much compared to MPEG-2 transponders. Most MPEG-4 satellite receivers are backward compatible, and can receive MPEG-2 transmissions. As a result, TataSky and DishTV have the option to deploy; in future; MPEG-4 STBs for (Bandwidth hungry) High Definition TV (HDTV) Transmissions, for Premium service customers.

DISH TV WILL ADD MORE KU BAND

Subhash Chandra-promoted Agrani Satellite Services Ltd is acquiring 14 per cent stake and will invest $64 million in ProtoStar satellite.

Agrani Satellite Services will have all the 14 Ku-band transponders of the satellite, enhancing Dish TV's capacity to offer more channels to its direct-to-home (DTH) subscribers.

"We will be investing $64 million over a five-year period. The satellite will help boost Dish TV's transponder capacity," Zee Network whole time director Punit Goenka told. Goenka is also Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (Zeel) network operating officer.

This will be ProtoStar Ltd's first satellite and is scheduled to launch in May 2008. ProtoStar 1 will also have 12 C-band transponders and will launch from Kourou in French Guyana.

ProtoStar Ltd. has already announced that it would be leasing out five C-band transponders to PlanetSky Ltd. of Limassol, Cyprus.

Dish TV is looking to expand its channel offerings. The DTH service provider is adding two transponders on NSS-6 satellite in January. This will take its total number of transponders on NSS to 11.

ProtoStar Ltd, a Bermuda corporation, is funded by a clutch of venture firms - New Enterprise Associates, VantagePoint Venture Partners and RedShift Ventures. The satellite services company acquires, launches and operates high-power geostationary satellites for DTH satellite television in the Asia-Pacific region.

There are lot of agents in INDIA for DISH TV. But, how do you get it down from India? Normally, if you by in India, you have to give the local address. Then, you have to bring it from their to Sri Lanks & ask your local person to install. You also have to get TRC clearence to clear it from the Air-port unless you have someone in the air-port.

But, normally, for multiroom connection, they will come & install it. They don't give the card to us to install because we can use that for 2 connections,
