LBN adds two more channels

LBN has taken increased its channel offerings by two by adding the Animax & UTV World Movies channels onto their platform during the last few days. At the moment LBN is the only Sri Lankan pay television company to carry these channels since Animax which was carried by Dialog TV earlier was taken off air over a flimsy excuse.

LBN has continually maintained an edge over Dialog TV by introducing channels first on a more regular basis than Dialog TV.

Please keep us updated on the latest regarding LBN as the days progress.

LBN now replace the "Dubai One TV" channel with "NDTV Goods Time" channel.

Why still LBN could not able to increase their No.of channels? Always replace one channel with another one.

Many thinks watching IPTV is something to do with ADSL package and download speed.

IPTV just need ASDL service, not the package you choose. Moreover, watching IPTV will not add any byte to your ADSL quota. IPTV totally in different spectrum within the ADSL connection. It will use the full bandwidth of the wire apart from Internet and voice service.

IPTV is third entity in the SLT telephone wire.

I just visited the IPTV Show @ BMICH, it was very disappointing to say the least. There were no extra news from the show other than what you find in their website www.tomorrowyou.tv . Only thing is they give a TV each day for a lucky winner from a draw!!!. At the moment they have some 12 channels including 6 local. They had BBC, HBO Channels etc. They talked a lot about time shift feature where you can watch at your convenient time. They have not yet fixed rates, They promised about 40 channels, but I must mention about the picture quality which was poor to be fair. It was VHS quality, not DVD. They promised it will increase once they launch at the end of August. But one wonder they would have done well to get the best quality when they were launching. and when you buy the device they give a router free.

T. Nadu to launch Cable TV Corporation

As the cable TV war between SUN TV owned by Maran brothers and the new network floated by M K Azhagiri, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, hotted up, the state government on Friday decided to launch the operations of the state-owned Arasu Cable TV corporation from July 15 in all districts, barring Chennai.

A decision in this regard was taken at the end of the two-day district collectors conference, presided by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi here. Maran brothers owned Sumangali Cable TV corporation had refused to give the feed to Azhagiri's Royal cable TV corporation in Madurai, depriving viewers from watching SUN TV network programmes.

Cable TV operators had demanded that the government launch its Arasu Cable TV operations soon. The Corporation as a MSO would provide feed to local cable TV operators who would become its agents.

The DTH (direct-to-home) action has moved to the southern market even as Sun Direct has mopped up one million subscribers in a short span of 200 days with low subscription pricing.

With Sun pricing its packages from as low as Rs 10 to Rs 140, market leader Dish TV has been forced to drop rates. The Zee Group DTH operator, boasting of 3.5 million subscribers across the country, has reduced the entry cost by over 40 per cent and introduced a special hat-trick offer for its subscribers in the four southern states.

As per the new rates, a new Dish TV connection in South India would now be available for Rs 1990 (plus Rs 200 as installation charges) from the earlier Rs 2,950 (plus Rs 200). In addition to this, there is monthly recurring cost starting at Rs 60 per month going up to Rs 300 per month.

Dish TV is also offering three benefits to subscribers under the hat-trick offer. The subscribers will be offered five leading sports channels, 33 free movies and unlimited gaming free for one year.
Sun Group's DTH offering includes 14 add-on packages (ranging from as low as Rs 10 to Rs 140) to "suit every pocket" in a "Pay for what you watch" concept. The one million subscribers, the company says, have come from only the four southern states - Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh - and the union territory of Pondicherry.

Sun Direct launched four regional basic tiers consisting of over 100 plus channels specific to each southern state (Tamil basic, Telugu Basic, Kannada Basic and Kerala basic) at the rate of Rs 75 per month.

Sun Direct now plans to have a national roll out strategy.

New south offer details with clarifications

Till now we all know that dishtv launched a new HATTRICK OFFER for south customers, Overall its really a very good offer. for just Rs.1990 + Rs.200 installation. and get Rs.1990 worth movies free and 5 sports channels.

- Drop down the base price of packages and now north and south customer have same package rates.

- New addon packs created for south customers.

- Sun channels are available on a-la-carte basis, even now south customer will get sun channels with 300 maxi pack as well.

- Existing customers will change their base pack to new one by calling cutomer care ..if you won't call customer care or change your pack then you will be in older pack and automatically moved to new package after your subscription ends.

- Best part is now if some has Tamil/malayalam pack and don't want to watch telugu channels then he don't have to pay for that and if he wants teleugu also then just subscribe for that pack and if he subscribe for that pack then also its more economical then previous one.

- Another good part is your initial investment is very low Rs.1990/-.

- Also all dishtv viewers will be able to watch 5 sports channels for free without any extra cost including ESPN channels.

- Free 33 movies worth Rs.1990/-

Over all its a very good packaging and pricing as compared to sun dth. and with this i think now dishtv is most economical in south with best channel offering for southy customers.
