LBN to have a court hearing today 5th July 2006 ?

Information is coming in that LBN will be appearing before courts today after the CBNSat hearing. Can anyone of the LBN Customers please confirm this.

Was there any communication to the customers from LBN and what it the hearing today all about? It looks like the LBN case has taken a lower profile to CBNSat.

The CBNSat CEO Mr. Muhunthan Canegey requested all operators to join hands and fight this issue as an industry and not individually. What is LBN's response to that?

Over to the management of LBN? Please do not keep your customers in the dark.

Do you think that Poor LBN Management will respond to this?

I think LBN is like somebody who drives a car with radio license. Eventhough they have realised this, still says , what they have is enough to run the cable TV operation (like radio license is enough to drive a vehicle) How stupid!!!!!!!!!

How stupid

Does anyone have any updates on the court proceeding today?

Apparently today is the mgesterial case for all cable companies. LBN has a seperate case in the curt of appeal which is scheduled for the 18th.

It's stupid to liken the LBN broadcast to driving with a radio license. This company has given a quality service for quite a long time. Besides as has been reiterated half a million times they don't need the license CBN needs because they don't broadcast through the air.

This same guys goes on an on about poor management, poor management and is getting on my nerves.

It seems obvious that either he works for another cable operator or has something against LBN.

Drives a car with radio license??? thats gotta be one of the most ridiculous posts on this blog.

Also like the 3rd post says LBN does NOT broadcast over air so anyone who posts comments please take note of that.

LBN didn't bother to send us a mail or even a phone call explaining why they are offline. I'm wondering how they run a professional business in that way. Then it's Sri Lanka. Just paid for digital upgrade before the shutdown - considering a claim for refund.

To a certain extend even I don't agree with that poor management comment as LBN has given a quality service for quite a long time. However don't agree with the way they handle the case now.

4th Post guy seems to be from LBN.

If LBN doesn't need the license CBN needs, they should have been in opeartion by now.

Why do you have to talk about comet cable and this juncture. The CID checked their licenses and found out everything is in order. They were the first pay tv company in Sri Lanka started with Southern development authority.

What I think is they should Completly ban cbn and as far as I know this will happen in days to come.

They were not clean from day 1.There agenda was not DTH.This was just a cover up.Anyway CBN will be closed for ever and LBN will get the license. This is the inside information we got so far.

For your information I did get a letter from LBN saying they hope they will get a license before the court case on July 18th. (although i was disappointed it didn't contain much useful information. just the normal "be patient" stuff)

You didn't get it? that probably means you aren't a LBN customer and are just making up bullshit about upgrading to digital. Probably Mr. poor management again.

And for anybodies information I'm NOT from LBN. just a subscriber who's pissed off that the bloody CID has shut down the cable TV operations

An individual by the name of Mr. M0han Mendis has sent an email to Consumer Affairs Authority regarding CBN.

How can we get this done for LBN?

The first blogger was right,They were running on someone elses licence and with no clearance from TRC,Its known that they did not have anykind of licence on LBN name and were running with someone elses licence(Third Party).

Further its far too complicated than CBN and if CBN competes in a higher court (Appeal or Supreme) on the licence issue, surely they will win with the law that prevailed at the time of closure and a fundamental rights case will be disadvantages to the authorities.

I think whatever the reasons we should get together with the CBN subscribers and see that this is sorted out as they have over 20000 subscribers

we think LBN managment handling the isseu very professinaly, according to courts yesterdat, CID, Media ministry confirmed that they dont have any furter investgation against LBN. But for the CBN story is different. these things were not in the papers but people who witness the hearing can confirm that. Lbn might not have money to spend like CBN, every one knows the funding is coming from. Cbn dont that much of aggrasive, end of the day you have to work with the same authorities.

Mr. LBN can you speak the truth? If you were there, why do you need others to confrim it.

If there is no further investgation against LBN, what is the issue?

You have no proper license to operate. That's what we know.

If the CID have dropped their investigations that seems to be a good thing, but do you have any idea whether LBN will be allowed to resume operations anytime soon? Will they also have to wait until AUG 15th for the idiotic ministry to "regulate" the industry?

I believe LBN or someone connected with it should update the customers as to exactly what's happening instead of always saying they hope to resume operations soon.

Does anyone know of any viable alternatives except for Comet as the situation with CBNsat and LBN seem to be dragging along

Cable TV providers case postponed

By T. Farook Thajudeen

Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya yesterday ordered CBN Sat and LBN to keep their services closed until August 15.

The magistrate made this order when three separate cases filed by the CID against CBN Sat, LBN and Sat Net were taken together for inquiry.

Senior Sate Counsel Gihan Kulatunga appearing with the CID informed court that the investigations would be completed by next week and thereafter they would file charges against the cable channel networks. He also stated that CID would not object to reopening the networks with the consent of the minister.

Counsel for the Media Ministry Hemantha Warnakulasuriy PC making his submissions stated that from the inception of Cable channel network in Sri Lanka irregularities had taken place in the process of granting approval to function. The media ministry was now seriously concerned about it. The ministry was taking necessary measures to regularize the faults, which would take a fairly long time . Therefore a long date could be fixed for the next inquiry.

Kuvera de Zoysa Senior Counsel for LBN net work in his submission stated that the B report filed by CID in court did not reveal any offences committed by his client. Therefore shutting down his net work was an injustice against him. He asked court to grant him permission to reopen his service..

Senior Counsel for Sat Net network Anuja Premaratne informed court that the provisions in the TRC act could only apply for the transmissions that were decoded within Sri Lanka Further he stated that his client was noticed to appear before court on criminal charges.

The law specifically states that in such a situation the charges should be clearly stated in the B report but the B report of the CID did not mention any charges. In a situation like that it was the court that had the jurisdiction but not the minister. Therefore he cannot be charged for violating any law...

At this stage state counsel informed court that Sat Net was selling the equipments without a valid permit .They would be charged on those grounds.

Counsel for CBN sat Riad Ameen stated that the CID carried on investigations without closing it since March . Therefore to grant them a short date for next inquiry..

The magistrarate after considering the submissions of all parties postponed the inquiries for August 15 and ordered CID to accelerate investigations of CBN sat.

apart from CBNSat, comet and LBN only alternative I know is SATNet.

Connection = ~35,000
Monthly Rental = ~2,300
No. of English Channels =8

it's really not worth it.
