There are so many channels already in the LBN lineup. These new additions will be like bonus.

Now LBN should start publishing their service through various means, one such is web site. It should be updated with all the new channels. The same web pages can be used as e-mail attachments and circulated through friends list (It will reduce the cost of marketing to very less).

It is good idea Mr.Sudhar. LBN should update their web pages.

Even on their channel list, all the channels are not included for a long perid of time.

American Pay TV service provider DirecTV and Tivo which creates television services for digital video recorders (DVR) in the US are to develop a software upgrade to enhance the user experience for DirecTV customers who have DVRs with the Tivo service built on the Series 2 platform.

Launching early next year, the new software download will provide these customers with DVR enhancements offered with the Tivo service, including a Recently Deleted Folder and Overlap Protection, as well as DirecTV’s remote booking feature.

@Hiru
I am living at Dehiwala. Since you did not mention for which channels you are getting that error(E48 E52) i assumed it for all. As entire channels black out happens only during power failure.

But Jaya TV most of the night upset and SUN tv also, you have to keep in mind these are the individual channels which are displaying the error message.

Dish TV touches 2.2 million subscribers

Dish TV, the demerged direct-to-home (DTH) entity of Zee Group, has touched a subscriber base of 2.2 million and is roping in 100,000 new customers every month.

The company expects ‘dishtv on computer,’ its newly launched service, to contribute around 10 per cent to the new numbers.

Dish TV today formally announced the launch of its new innovation –'dishtv on computer’ at Bangalore.

The product which is a special set-top box (STB) will be distributed through high end durable outlets that already sell dishtv, as well as through the sales arm of TVS Electronics.

Dish TV has said that it plans to invest Rs 8.5 billion over the next three years and is in talks with foreign institutional investors to raise money. It expects to touch a subscriber base of about 4.5 million by the end of fiscal 2009.

One more Tamil TV channel to be launched

Mega TV, a new Tamil satellite television channel, has been floated by the family of a Congress MP from Tamil Nadu with an aim to propagate the ideology of the Congress, nationalism and national development.

The TV channel would start telecasting from August 20, the birth anniversary of the late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Mega TV would be a free-to-air 24-hour entertainment and news channel. ISRO's INSAT 2B would be used for beaming the programmes.

Cricket

Indians surely would like to win matches. But if and when they win.. then those matches are shown repeatedly. Luckily they didn't qualify for super 8 in world Cup 
If they have won the world cup those matches would have shown in all Star, ESPN and Star Sports even now. I believe this is mainly due to sponsorships they get even for repeat telecasts.

So, unfortunately will have to expect India to loose matches very often.

star said...

@hiru,

please note that telecast rights of the world cup matches are with SONY TV for the south asian area.

Therefore, even india won the world cup, it will not repeated in ESPN,STAR CRICKET & STAR SPORTS because the do not have the rights to telecast these matches.

But, i agreed with your comment.

Tata Sky Ltd (TSL), a joint venture between the Tata and the STAR group offering Direct to Home Service (DTH), is confident of breaching the 1-million subscribers mark before it completes one year of operation as it had suggested at the time of its launch in August last year.

It also expects the DTH platform to become an overwhelming favourite with the television viewers in the country and the number of DTH customers is expected to increase five fold in the next five years.

The Tata Sky was present in more than 4,200 towns and there were over 35,000 dealers and the number of direct and indirect employees was around 5,000.

Direct-to-Home operator TataSky and Sun TV are inching toward settlement of their nine month- old dispute on feed sharing, with the south-based broadcaster agreeing to provide its channels in suitable packages.

Contrary to its earlier stand, Sun TV has informed the tribunal that considering TataSky's demand, it would provide region wise packages of its channels to the DTH operator.

Sun's each package consisted Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada channels. TataSky, a 80: 20 joint venture between Tata group and broadcast major Star India, had contended that these packages did not suite the interest of its south-based regional viewers.

"Packages should suit the regional audience. A Tamil viewer should not be forced to pay for Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada channels," counsel appearing for TataSky said.

Sun TV, owned by south-based industrialist Mr Kalanidhi Maran, is also going to launch its own DTH platform very soon.

Taking a tough stance against channels that have failed to pay carriage fees for slots on its direct-to-home (DTH) service, Prasar Bharati has threatened to take five defaulters off air if they do not cough up their dues.

The public broadcaster, which boasts of the largest DTH service in the country that beams into over five million homes, has set a deadline of August 15 for these five channels to pay up. After this, they will be blacked out.

The five channels are Headlines Today, TV9, Akash Bangla, Aaj Tak and Star Utsav. Sahara channel, which too was issued a notice, has expressed its "inability" to pay the amount. Under the rules, a domestic channel has to pay Rs 25 lakh a year as carriage fee while foreign channels have to pay Rs 50 lakh.

Doordarshan's DTH platform was the only totally free service of its kind in the world.

A TAM survey has put Doordarshan's DTH platform's spread to over 3.5 million homes in India but Prasar Bharati insists it is higher than five million as TAM does not have adequate surveillance infrastructure to survey interior areas.

TAM puts Zee's DishTV as "far down second" and TataSky as number three in terms of reach. Doordarshan's DTH service has 45 channels on board, including 20 DD channels, 23 domestic private channels and two foreign channels.

70 new channels from india.

With over 70 new TV channels expected to be launched in the next three to six months, consumers will get more choice of television content.

But this is causing worry for cable operators because the technology currently being used allows only 70 channels to be telecast.

Applications from over 50 companies to launch 72 new cable channels are pending before the ministry of information and broadcasting (I&B) for necessary clearances.

The new launches will include channels from leading broadcasters and production houses such as NDTV, INX Media, BAG Films and TV18 group among others.

Currently, about 220 channels have the necessary permission to downlink their channels in India. Downlinking of channel means permission to download the channels from the satellite for further transmission and re-transmission.

Once the downlinking permission is granted, the total number of cable and satellite channels in the country will cross the 300 mark.

But the addition of more cable channels is a worrying factor for the local cable operators as most of the cable distribution platform in the country is in analogue (television channels distributed on co-axial wire).

In the analogue mode of distribution, cable operators can not offer more than 70 cable channels to consumers. Therefore, it will be difficult for cable operators to telecast all the new channels, industry experts said.

According to the government plan, India should switch from the current analogue transmission of cable channels to digital delivery between 2010 and 2015. While CAS has been implemented in parts of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, the government is still exploring faster rollout of digital cable in the country.

Apart from cable and satellite channels, there are a large number of local cable channels available in all parts of the country. In addition of satellite channels, there are over 200 local television channels available in the country.

According to sources in the I&B ministry, about half of the new applications are for news and entertainment channels while the rest are for regional channels.
