Raj Television Network (RTN) has declared plans to launch separate Tamil language News & Youth Channels. The announcement comes at a time when political parties in Tamil Nadu are rolling out party affiliated channels, to influence viewers with party oriented content.

"We are targeting August-end or early September for the launch" said RTN founder-promoter Rajendran. Raj TVs news venture comes close on the heels of the government's approval on 23 July to start uplinking its channels from within the country. This allows the company to now telecast live content and news which was earlier not possible after its uplinking facilities in Chennai were terminated in 2005.

Raj TV's news channel will be uplinked from the VSNL facility, says Rajendran.

Raj Television is also planning a Youth channel, to address youth in the state.

The Youth targetted channel is actually named "Raj Music" but only 40% of the content will be dedicated to music !

"Raj Music" will initially be launched as a free to air (FTA) channel.
